Dove x Mommy Mundo: The #ConfidentGirl Forum

Dove X Mommy Mundo

I was not paid to promote the Dove Self-Esteem Project. But after attending The #ConfidentGirl Forum by Dove x Mommy Mundo, I knew it was something I had to share in my own small way, especially because I am a mother of a daughter and because the struggle with self-esteem is real, for all women (and even men).

The #ConfidentGirl Forum

Dove Self-Esteem Project

November 7, 2017 at Las Flores in Bonifacio Global City was the first #ConfidentGirl Forum. The #ConfidentGirl Forum is an initiative under the Dove Self-Esteem Project aimed at shedding light on appearance related anxiety experienced by women of all ages -- even (and especially) our young daughters.

The Dove Self-Esteem Project focuses primarily on the "tween" to teen years (eight to sixteen years old) where there is very little information and resources available to navigate through this tricky and crucial period in the lives of young girls.

Watch Apples Aberin, Head of PR for Unilever Philippines talk about the passion and purpose behind the Dove Self-Esteem Project.

The #ConfidentGirl Forum

invited mothers of all ages from all walks of life to come together  and bring to the table their own personal struggles and triumphs in raising daughters with healthy self-esteem.

And who better to get the word out to us moms than the biggest mom community in the Philippines? Mommy Mundo has been at the forefront of #mompowerment ("mom empowerment") for years with Founder, Janice Villanueva at the helm.

Anyone who's met and spoken with Janice knows that her passion for mothers and family is as genuine as it gets.

Watch her along with Child Development Experts, Gabby Roa-Limjoco (Directress of PlayWorks Early Childhood Centers) and Tina Zamora (Directress of Nest School for Whole Child Development), share their expert opinion and real experiences on the healthy development of young girls, especially being mothers of daughters themselves.

Parent and Mentor Resources

The Dove Self-Esteem Project resources for Parents and Mentors start off with "Uniquely Me: A Tool to Help Build Positive Body Confidence in Your Child." It's a creative document that boldly tackles most (if not all) of the major issues that young girls face about themselves and their environment, and how parents (especially mothers) can guide and support them through these issues without straining their mother-daughter relationship or hampering their daughter's freedom to grow.

The "Uniquely Me" tool is a downloadable file in PDF format; you can save it on your desktop/laptop or have it on your tablet or smartphone for easier access. There are also several articles in the Parent and Mentor Resources section that tackle the following major areas of concerns in tween-to-teen development:

Because all our daughters are unique and we each have our own parenting styles, Dove Self-Esteem Project encourages all moms to develop their own "action plan" when it comes to using the resources for their daughters.

Teacher Resources

The Dove Self-Esteem Project is serious about getting and keeping our daughters on the right path of their growth and self-discovery so they have also developed resource materials for schools who would like to provide support to their students using the guiding principles of the Dove Self-Esteem Project.

The Teacher Resources are called "Confident Me" and come in a three-fold module:

The "Confident Me" resources are designed to allow teachers and schools to run body-confidence workshops. The workshops allow teachers and students to explore the impact that image ideals portrayed through the media have on the self-esteem of young girls.

Youth Leader Resources

The Dove Self-Esteem Project also recognizes the role that Youth Leaders and Youth Groups play in the lives of young people, which is why they have taken the time to include two modules specifically designed to support Youth Leaders and Youth Group dynamics:

  • Free Being Me
  • True to Me

The Youth Leader modules come with a Leader Guide, Activity Pack and Handouts.
